Distribute the Add-in using sideloading for Mac

The preferred way of distribution is using the admin center see "Distribute an Add-in using the Office 365 admin center". If this is not possible, use this approach of sideloading.

Before you Start

Make sure that you have received the Aligned Elements Word Add-In Manifest xml file from your Aligned representative.

Word on Mac does not provide the opportunity to connect to a manifest xml file in a shared location. Therefore, the manifest file must be placed in a specific local path on each computer.

Also make sure that all Word instances are closed on the machine before you start.

Perform the Deployment

1. Create or open the folder (e.g search for the path using Spotlight Search) in the directory: /users/<username>/library/containers/com.microsoft.word/data/documents/wef

Replace the <username> part of the path with your user name on the mac computer.

It might be that the 'wef' subfolder does not exist on your computer. In that case, create the folder 'wef' in the designated location.

2. Copy the xml-manifest from Aligned Elements Shared Drive to the file location /users/<username>/library/containers/com.microsoft.word/data/documents/wef

  1. Open Ms Word

  2. Select the Aligned Elements Word Add-in in Insert Menu=>My Add-ins=>Dropdown=>Aligned Elements Add-in

  1. Once it has been added it can be accessed for use by clicking on Show Add-in on the far right of the Home menu.
